Home was not so sweet for the Marple Newtown Tigers (0-2) Friday night as they were beaten 36-0, by the Strath Haven Panthers (1-1).
The Tigers failed to gain any moment on the game’s first drive, stalling at midfield. Strath Haven quickly drove down the field with a ground attack that resulted in a score on a short run to put the Panthers up 6-0. The Panthers continued to move the ball and found themselves up 22-0 at the half.
The Tigers offense moved the ball more during the second half, but were unable to sustain any real momentum. Senior Phil Graziano saw the bulk of the carries offensively, helped sure up the Tigers defense at his safety spot and returned kicks during the evening.
The Tigers look ahead to new Central League foe Garnet Valley on Friday evening at Garnet Valley. The Jaguars lost in the PIAA 4A State Championship game last year and return a good amount of firepower. Gametime is 7:00 PM.
