Tigers Head Coach Ray Gionta was recognized for his contributions to the Marple Newtown community at the boys & girls basketball doubleheader at MNHS on Monday, January 28.
Bob Scittina from the Southeastern PA Football Officials Association presented Coach Gionta with an award, citing the program’s continued success, sportsmanship and class. Officials Gerry D’Giovanni and Harry Chaykun were also on-hand for the festivities.
Athletic Director Dennis Reardon also presented Coach Gionta with plaque, honoring Gionta as the all-time winningest coach in Marple Newtown’s 85-year football history. Gionta’s win total currently stands at 62.
Gionta was joined at center court by Haverford coach Joe Gallagher, Strath Haven coach Kevin Clancy, and several former Tiger players.
Tigers sophomore tight end & linebacker Trevor Jones performed the national anthem prior to the boys basketball 63-42 victory over Radnor. Jim Allsman, the voice of the Tigers, served as the emcee for the presentation.
